Real-time stats and scores

Yahoo!’s all new Sports App was the first real-time sports app out to market. All scores, stats, everything was updated for the first time in real-time. Hard to believe now, but that was a huge innovation and motivation for a high impact product launch campaign.

A single second is powerful. It has meant winning or losing for countless teams and players. Now for the first time through a mobile app, spectators got to experience real-time scoring. A single second changes the game. Creatively, we wanted to focus on a fan’s emotional ride within a single second over the course of a :30 spot. With a ridiculous high speed Phantom camera, and heavy VFX work, we started the spot in epic raindrop-filled slow mo and then led to the fan’s real-time reaction at a laundromat.

We probably had a dozen production conversations about how to achieve the TD celebration inspired phone spin on the laundromat floor. Still likely one of the more innovative app screen walk-throughs done in a TV spot.
